Love flamingos? I do, too! But we are not going to talk about a winged animal with long legs, but a great venue for golfers to putt and drive golf balls named Flamingo Lakes Golf & Country Club. Do patrons love this place because their sweet name sticks or because of the challenge they can bring? We are about to find it out.

Flamingo Lakes has been providing quality golf course conditions at a practicable price since 1985. What they have is a challenging par 71 field located in just one half mile east of I-75 at century village® in Pembroke Pines. It’s a semi-private property which might be Broward’s best kept secret.

Flamingo Lakes Golf & Country Club is located at 701 Flamingo West Dr. Pembroke Pines, Broward County, FL 33027. If you have been to the Pembroke Lakes Mall, it is not far from that location. If you thought this would be another country club with a traditional 18-hole regulation length course, think again. People in Pembroke Pines wouldn’t consider this a best kept secret for nothing. In fact, patrons found Flamingo Lakes to have the toughest 5900 yard course around. To account the exact figures, here’s an offer of 71 par in a 5,854 yard field featuring 125 slopes worth of challenges to put a test on all skill levels.

Extras

The club is part of the greatest retirement community in Florida – Century Village, which only means it carries all the extra features the Village has. And of course, a driving range and a Pro are available to help you practice and knock the balls the right way. There is also a PRO shop for those who consider buying golf items on the spot.

There is no dress code to follow when you visit and the guest policy is open. You can reserve tee times via phone. Their rate as of this writing is in between $16 to $30. Another spot that is thought to, also, claim the best golfing facility in South Florida is The Club at Emerald Hills. But do they really have what it takes to be what they claim to be? Well, we are about to find out. Let’s see if their authority, location, thrills and features live up to their claim.

Authority

To start with, The Club at Emerald Hills has been part of “Golf Digest Places to Play” publication for the past 12 years. The spot has been the host of different golf qualifying rounds, including the Doral and Honda Open Qualifiers. It has also been one of the host sites for the different US qualifiers, including the US Open, Sr. Open, Amateur, Mid-Amateur and Public Links.

The club started with the name Emerald Hills Country Club in 1969 and was later renamed to The Club at Emerald Hills in 1989. The former design was by Bruce Devlin & Robert Von Hagge. The latter design was by Charles Ankrom.

Where to find them

Finding the club is not really that difficult as locals very well recognized them. They are exactly located at 4100 N Hills Drive Hollywood, FL 33021. It is a location which is very close to both the Topeekeegee Yugne Park on one side and Oak Lake Park on the other side. From Stirling Rd, turn right to N 46th Avenue. Then, turn left on 1st traffic light to N Hills Drive. Check on your right as you drive through for the Clubhouse.  If you are coming from a different direction, you may ring their Clubhouse phone at (954) 961-4000 for turn by turn directions.

The Club at Emerald Hills would not be recognized as “One of the Nations’ Top Golf Clubs” and rated “Excellent” in "America's Top Golf Courses" by ESPN and Zagat Survey for nothing. Players enjoy, indeed, their rolling parkland terrain course style. It is a course that will surely make your day as a golfer. It is always in best condition, and water comes into play on 12 holes.

Extras

There are a couple of extras that make the club even more recommendable. There are meeting rooms for all types of functions. There is an elegant restaurant ready to pamper exhausted guests with delicious dishes. There is a driving range for the warm-ups and practices as well as a Pro Shop for necessary golf items. They are open for wedding celebrations and other special events, in case you want to throw a golf-related party.

Obligations

The Club at Emerald Hills is a softspike facility. And they do not use rainchecks. For the period of June 05 – November 10, 2013 the rates are $55 before 12 noon, $50 after 12 noon and $40 at 4pm onwards during weekdays. During weekends, rates are $65 before 12 noon, $55 after 12 noon and $45 at 4pm onwards. The rates do not include Sales Tax. Replay rate this summer is $25 + tax. The new clubhouse will soon be available, though they are temporarily operating in a modular building with a small shop and snack bar. This does not mean you will face less satisfaction in the service, though, as you still get to enjoy cold drinks, great greens, and be attended by a very friendly staff. And if you like hearing music from one point while you perform your craft, mobile speakers are up for use free of change so you can plug your iPod and get your favorite music playing in the background.
